Why am I writing this blog?
Like many comic book fans I had often thought about a career in comics. I ruled out the art side pretty quickly since my drawing skills are roughly equivalent to Napoleon Dynamite’s drawing skills. I also suspected that writing was actually harder than it looks. Or at least it was harder to do well than it looks. (Writing this blog is starting to seem harder than it looks.) So if I eliminate writing and art that seems to only leave editing and publishing, both of which look suspiciously like work. So no career in comics for me. I guess I briefly flirted with the idea of opening a comic shop, but that was clearly work so that option was out.
Yet the desire to be part of the world of comic books remains. Even if I am not creating comics, I can still participate in the dialog about comics. The World Wide Web has broken down the barriers to communication. Now, any wacko with something to say has the potential to reach a global audience. With this small power comes an occasional bit of responsibility, so I’ll sometimes try to be fair and honest. This is my attempt at using this new era of communication to play a more active role in my favorite entertainment medium.
That’s why I’m writing this blog.
Thanks for asking.
